Where To Get Ring Of Oath And How To Reach Its Location
The Ring of Oath, formally known in Elden Ring as the Dark Moon Ring, is a crucial key item required to progress Ranni the Witch's storyline and access the secret Moonlight Altar region. Players often encounter a mysterious seal past the Astel boss fight demanding this ring before they can move forward. Securing this item requires following specific quest steps across underground zones and academy halls.
Locating the Treasure Chest in Raya Lucaria
The physical location of the Ring of Oath is inside the Raya Lucaria Grand Library, situated within the academy in Liurnia of the Lakes. After defeating Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, a locked treasure chest sits quietly in the northern corner of the library room. However, attempting to open this chest early will reveal that it requires a special key to unlock.
To gain access to the contents of this chest, adventurers must first obtain the Discarded Palace Key. This essential key is not found nearby, forcing players to venture deep into the underground rivers of the Lands Between.
Obtaining the Discarded Palace Key
To acquire the key, players must travel to the Ainsel River Main area by using the waygate at Renna's Rise. Upon arrival, search nearby coffins to pick up the Miniature Ranni doll item. Rest at a local site of grace and select the option to converse with the doll three times until she responds.
Ranni will task you with defeating an invading hostile entity known as the Baleful Shadow. Head through the ruins of Nokstella to reach the Nokstella Waterfall Basin site of grace. Defeating the red phantom Baleful Shadow in the cavern ahead automatically rewards you with the Discarded Palace Key.
Claiming the Ring of Oath
With the Discarded Palace Key in hand, fast travel back to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library site of grace. Approach the locked chest near Rennala and open it to claim the Dark Moon Ring. This item serves as the Ring of Oath needed to dispel the magical barrier blocking your path.
Holding this ring allows you to bypass restrictions and proceed into the final phase of Ranni's narrative arc. It acts as a symbolic token of commitment within the game's lore.
Reaching the Sealed Barrier and Beyond
Return to the Grand Cloister underground and defeat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, if you have not already done so. Walk to the cavern exit at the back of the boss arena where the blue energy seal previously blocked passage. Carrying the Ring of Oath will cause the barrier to dissipate automatically, granting passage to an elevator.
Ride the elevator up to reach the plateau of the Moonlight Altar above Liurnia. From there, travel toward the Cathedral of Manus Celes to complete the questline and claim your rewards.
